For those of you who have been paying attention, here's the presidential race thread (U.S.). There are still primaries, but here's pretty much the candidates: (D)Hillary Clinton vs (D)Barack Obama in primaries for the democratic party (R)John McCain vs Literally no one O_o In the general election, it will be John McCain vs Either Obama or Clinton. Post some of your views B-) Edited by Papeh, March 25, 2008, 5:03 pm.

I'm not really into the US politics, tbh. But, erm, I don't have a clue, at all. How exactly does it all work? ![]() I hear it lasts for about a year? |

I'll give you a brief overview. Basically, you have 3 parties. Independent, Democrat, and Republican. Every 4 years, the United States has a presidential election. In this time, people from all three parties debate each other, campaign, and compete for the nomination from their party. It's usually Democrat vs. Republican, however, the Independents are people who are not committed to a certain party. As in, one year they may vote Democrat. Another, Republican. Once there is a nomination from the Republican party and a nomination from the Democratic Party, the two will begin to campaign for the White House. B-) I'm a conservative Republican. Fred Thompson was my favorite candidate, though I do somewhat like John McCain.

Each state (out of our 50) has a different way of polling the people to see their candidates. In the primaries (different dates for different parties), the dates of the different state elections are decided by the party. I'm pretty sure my state has already had the democratic primary, but not the republican ![]() Then, on November 4th, EVERYONE votes at once for one day to determine the president. |

Too complicated. In Britain, it's just a tick, then shove it in a box. And that's it!
